From Account Creation to Granting Partner Access: How to Set Up Your Meta Business Portfolio
Creating an effective Facebook presence involves more than just setting up a page—you need a structured approach to manage ads and assets. At Magnetic North, we’re dedicated to maximizing your digital marketing efforts. Part of our services includes managing Meta ads efficiently and securely on your behalf. To facilitate this, we’ve created a guide to help you set up your Meta Business Portfolio (formerly Facebook Business Manager) and Ads Manager accounts. Here’s how you can get everything ready for us to take over your ad campaigns seamlessly.
Step 1: Setting Up Meta Business Portfolio
Your Meta Business Portfolio is essential for organizing your business’s Facebook and Instagram assets and allows agencies like ours to manage your ads without directly accessing your personal Facebook information.
- Begin the Setup: Visit business.facebook.com and choose ‘Create Account’.
- Log In: If prompted, log into your Facebook account.
- Enter Your Business Information: Fill in your business name and business email. You will receive a confirmation email to verify these details.
- Verify Your Account: Follow the verification link in your email to confirm and complete the setup.
This initial step ensures that your business assets are neatly organized and securely managed.
Step 2: Creating Your Facebook Ads Manager Account
Your Ads Manager account is where your advertising campaigns are created, managed, and optimized.
- Access the Ads Account Setup: In Business Manager, go to ‘Account’ > ‘Add Account’.
- Establish a New Ads Account: Click on ‘Create a New Ad Account’, then enter the necessary details such as the account name, time zone, and currency. Remember, the currency choice is permanent and crucial for accurate billing.
- Define the Account’s Purpose: Specify whether this account is for your own business or a client-managed setup. Since you are the business owner, select “own business”.
- Grant Access: Ensure you grant full access to yourself, other necessary team members, and to Magnetic North. This enables us to manage your campaigns effectively. Instructions are in the next step!
- Note: More than we’d like, we encounter business owners who do not have access to their assets due to company turnover. To avoid a battle with Facebook to regain ownership (which is a long, tedious process), we recommend always having more than one team member as an admin on these accounts, including the business owner.
Step 3: Granting Partner Access to Magnetic North
To allow Magnetic North to manage your Meta ads efficiently, you need to grant us access to your business assets in Business Manager.
- Open Partner Settings: Within Business Manager, navigate to ‘Business settings’, then click on ‘Partners’ under ‘Users’.
- Add Magnetic North as a Partner: Select ‘Add’, then ‘Give a partner access to your assets’. You’ll need to enter Magnetic North’s business ID, which we can provide upon request.
- Set Permissions: Choose which assets Magnetic North will manage and the level of access— we prefer full control based on the scope of tasks we complete. We will need access to:
- Ads Manager
- Page
- Domains
- Pixel
- Catalog
- Events
- Confirm Settings: After setting the permissions, click ‘Save changes’ to secure the updates.
Conclusion
Setting up your Meta Business Portfolio and Ads Manager correctly not only streamlines the process of launching and managing your ad campaigns but also safeguards your business’s privacy and security. By following these steps and granting Magnetic North the necessary permissions, you are setting the stage for a successful and hassle-free partnership.
